Why this book?

What happens when integrity stops being treated as a personal virtue and starts becoming something we design into systems?

Integrity examines corruption not as a moral failing of individuals but as a systemic dysfunction — one that can be understood, measured, and corrected. Through institutional design, incentive structures, and proof frameworks, Olusoji Apampa builds the case that integrity is not only desirable but engineerable.

The Argument

Integrity is bigger than individual character.

Societies have long delegated integrity to the conscience. Apampa argues this is not enough. When institutions lack design that makes honest behaviour the path of least resistance, even well-intentioned actors face structural pressure to defect.

The book draws on decades of research to propose practical architectures: verification systems that make corruption visible, incentive structures that reward compliance, and accountability mechanisms that outlast any administration.

"Integrity without architecture is aspiration. Architecture without integrity is machinery. The work is to build both at once."

Reader Reflections

“Read your book in 2 days in between work commitments. What a wonderful read”

Prof. Buge Apampa

On the book

“I like that it is based on lived experience and in response to a question that most people would have thought about but ultimately felt overwhelmed by the challenges”

Chris Okeke

“Your book should be compulsory reading in schools and other educational institutions.”

Prof. Buge Apampa

On “Integrity needs a constituency”

“Particularly enjoyed the section on “integrity needs a constituency””

Chris Okeke

“The importance of integrity as a force for good in business and governance left me thinking about the work we do at universities and why the checks and balances you describe enable national growth in other countries.”

Prof. Buge Apampa

On Chapter 3

“Chapter 3 illustrates the integrity issue clearly with the ports reform example and how you developed a model to tackle the challenges. I liked how you framed the outcomes of how to measure integrity in terms of time, cost, discretion etc.”

Chris Okeke

“I love the fact that your focus is on what we have to do as a country and not on recounting the terrible corruption that assails us in Nigeria, which is what most people spend time discussing.”

Prof. Buge Apampa

On the Kaduna Dairy chapter

“The chapter on Kaduna Dairy is instructive- shows how you can sequence and translate reforms into commercially viable venture - that transformed lives.”

Chris Okeke

“Your book should be compulsory reading in schools and other educational institutions.”

Prof. Buge Apampa

On the concluding chapters

“I like the practical steps and guidelines in the concluding chapters- very accessible and relatable.”

A Note from the Author

Why now? Why this book?

Olusoji Apampa speaks candidly about the moment he decided the field needed a different kind of intervention — one grounded in design rather than exhortation.
